Oikos Paris Big Survey Project

For months now, oikos has been working on the elaboration and launch of a big SD survey at the ESSEC business school.

Why launching a survey? At first hand, it might not seem a very powerful project. Well let’s face the truth. In a lot of universities, a lot of isolated students work each year on writing a nice report with great recommendations to green their campus. Then, they present it to some professors - mostly already convinced that introducing SD in the campus would be a great idea - hoping that it will help things change… and things usually don’t.

We are convinced that there are other ways to make a difference, to have much more impact and faster. One way is to write down a report based on a massive survey which reflects not oikos students’ but each and every stakeholders’ point of view: professors, students and administration members. If your report is based on hundreds of answers to such a survey, now you have some credibility and some legitimacy in presenting recommendations to your university dean.

After months in elaborating a questionnaire in collaboration with numerous professors and administration members, we paid for a well designed online survey - attractive enough for the most reluctant student ;-). Indeed, in parallel of the questionnaire elaboration, we had worked on a budget and signed financial partnerships with Group Carrefour and Group Caisse d’Epargne. We launched officially the survey on the 11th of February with a “big day”: movie session, free Ben & Jerry’s ice-creams, radio show, SD photography exposure,…

On the 17th of March, we stopped collecting questionnaires: we had collected more than 600! With that many answers, we can achieve our goals which are to measure precisely the notoriety and satisfaction of the numerous ethical initiatives already implemented in our school, and to determine what news initiatives should be uppermost launched. We will present our results next June!

If you want some more information about this initiative, we will be glad to answer your questions and send you the English version of the questionnaire (Indeed, we translated it in order to have exchange students answering as well!).
